BINTULU: Wargana Consortium Sdn Bhd has carried out its responsibility in removing floating logs and debris at Bakun Lake to make the man-made lake one of the cleanest in the world.

Its general manager Stephen Sia said the completion of the process of removing floating logs and debris at Sungai Beto, including Naha Jaley and Long Bulan, has ended the suffering of local residents who were badly affected when navigating the river to attend to their daily chores.

“With the completion of the cleaning works and removal of floating logs in Bakun Lake, the lake is now clean and with beautiful scenery because thousands of tonnes of floating logs and debris have been removed,” he said when met during a thanksgiving event held after the completion of logjam cleaning works at Uma Lesung, Naha Nyabong, Batu Keling in Belaga on Monday.

Pemanca Tony Kulleh, meanwhile, hoped that the company will continue to be given the mandate to carry out the cleaning works at the lake up to the upstream area to Long Jawe and Long Busang, to ensure the safety of the residents.

“Wargana Consortium, entrusted by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) to carry out the cleaning works, has carried out its responsibility very well, and we have seen the results. After six months, the logjam has been removed,” he said.

He hoped the Sarawak government would continue to engage the company in the quest to make Bakun Lake the cleanest man-made lake in the world.

NREB Bintulu chief Sinanawati Marto and Penghulu Saging Bit were among those present.
