KUALA LUMPUR: The bus service for the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme in Kuching is expected to commence operations in January next year, said Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar.

He said a total of 130 new buses are available covering 27 routes with 15 core routes and 12 connecting routes with a total distance of 560 kilometres.

“A total of 116 buses and 14 replacement buses are operating, with a 55-passenger capacity and equipped with disabled friendly features, Wifi, Global Tracking System (GPS) and electronic ticket by smart card usage for the convenience of the users,” he told the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

He was replying to a question from Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen (PH–Bandar Kuching) who wanted to know the status of the  SBST implementation in Kuching.

The Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Transport  (MIDT) was appointed as the implementing agency for the SBST programme in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Department, he added.

The SBST programme is expected to address the lack of stage bus service service and connectivity in urban and rural areas. – Bernama
