SIBU: The police are looking for a 40-year-old man to help in the investigation into the murder case of a 26-year old woman at a Jalan Tiong Hua rented house on August 2.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the picture of the man, identified as Philip Uja from Kanowit,  had gone viral, with text linking him to the murder case.

“As such, we need him to come forward to assist in the murder case,” he said.

In the murder case, the woman, who only got married last year, was found dead in her rented room with her hands and legs tied behind her back.

The victim, who worked at UTC Sibu, was discovered by a colleague who went to check on her after she failed to show up for work.

The victim hailed from Kanowit and lived alone at the rented house as her husband works in Tatau.

Stanley informed that the victim had earlier told her colleague the said man had disturbed her before.

“Moreover, on August 1, the victim’s neighbours also saw the man coming to visit her at about 8pm,” he said.

Asked on whether the woman was raped and murdered as viraled on social media, Stanley said it could not be ascertained as yet.

We are still waiting for the post-mortem report and only then we will know the result and the motive behind the murder,” he said.

Several forensic experts from Kuching arrived to assist in the case. The team also visited the site of the murder to conduct investigation.

Meanwhile, it is believed the man disappeared after his picture had gone viral.

Police had also gone to his longhouse in Kanowit to look for him, but his current whereabouts are unknown.

Members of the public who know the whereabouts of Philip Uja are urged to call Sibu Police Station at 084-336144.
