‘More job opportunities with digital economy’

SIBU: The growth of digital economy here will help create more job opportunities for local folk, opines Sibu MP Oscar Ling.

Met after taking part in the Sibu Social Impact Programme Meeting organised by Solaku Enterprise here on Friday, he said both the Sarawak and federal governments should encourage greater participation in digital economic activities by providing assistance to digital entrepreneurs.

“Digital economic activities should be encouraged by both the federal and state governments to help entrepreneurs expand their digital economic activities not only within Sarawak, but to a much larger market beyond the state’s boundaries,” he said.

The meeting was chaired by Mohammad Hisham Khairul Nasir, who is the managing director of Solaku Enterprise – the company that manages BeliBeli24.

BeliBeli24 is an online platform that offers economical solutions for businesses to be online and connect to the growing online market.

It allows businesses to have their own booking system or access the BeliBeli24 on-demand delivery fleet.

The meeting served as a brainstorming session on digital economy in terms of socio-economy, legal aspects and direction for Sibu.

Ling also praised Mohammad Hisham as a courageous digital entrepreneur who aspires to see digital economy benefit the people of Sibu and Sarawakians in general.

“I hope to see more youngsters emulate Hisham and in starting up other types of digital economic business of their own,” he said.

Among those who attended the meeting included community leader Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce, corporate figure and owner of SugarBun Ulu Oya franchise Datuk William Ngu, Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry representative Ting Ka Hua, Mara Sibu Division officer Mohd Razib Mohd Tahir, and Sibu Mara Tenants and Entrepreneurs Association chairman Sarbini @ Selohi Awai.
