MIRI: School managements should organise more activities that promote social interaction among teachers, students and parents.

In making this suggestion, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting believed such events would foster better understanding which in turn would boost the schools’ achievement in the development of education.

He said this when officiating at SMK Baru Miri’s Gotong-Royong Programme at the school here yesterday.

Ting added: “Such activities serve as the best platform to enhance understanding between the teachers and parents as well as students.”

He said work party (gotong-royong) programme organised by the school was a good initiative as it gave teachers the chance to get to know the students’ parents better.

He added that parents would know how their children perform and progress academically in school.

“This gotong-royong programme is actually a beneficial event where teachers together with parents as well as students shared the common aim to make the school not only clean but also ensure that it is a safe place for students.”

Later at the same function, Ting announced a RM5,000 government grant for the school given under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund.

Also present were the school principal Jerrah Pandin and the school’s Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) chairman Iskandar Abdul Rahim.
