KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah acting president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili called on the Parti Warisan-led government to honour their election manifesto, particularly on Borneonisation.

“Do not destroy the Sabah civil service purely for political expediency and cronyism goals,” said Maximus.

He was commenting on the appointment of the new Sabah Water Department director, Amarjit Singh, which Maximus described as completely out of context and totally against the basic practice of the technical civil service
“It shows the extent to which the Warisan state government can go in appointing party members and cronies to destroy the basic fabric of the Sabah civil service.

“This is against the Borneonisastion safeguard entrenched in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) which provided the fundamental guarantee for ‘native first’ in the appointment of senior officers in the civil service.

“Is there a shortage of senior qualified, technically trained officers in the Water Department and Public Works Department? Why bring an ordinary officer from outside the civil service to displace senior members of the technical civil service?” Maximus asked.

He also questioned Amarjit’s qualification, and wonder what PWD engineers and Sabah Water Department are lacking compared to him.

“Please respect the established system of functioning civil service and honour the MA63.

“Keep in mind that you are still to be proven legally as a legitimate government, so stop creating a mess and please don’t bully the natives of this land, especially the civil servants,” said Maximus.
