SIBU: The Sibu and Mukah groups of haj pilgrims are on their way to Mecca to fulfil one of the five pillars of Islam.

Fifty-eight Muslims, including one from Sarikei, are under the Sibu group, while 24 are under the Mukah group, according to Lembaga Tabung Haji Sibu representative Junaihah Hasbi.

Political secretary to chief minister Abu Seman Jahwie sent off the Sibu group at the airport here yesterday morning, who boarded the flight bound to Kuching.

“The two groups will meet in Kuching, before boarding a flight bound for Kuala Lumpur – from where, they will proceed the journey to Mecca later on,” said Junaihah.

Political secretary to the chief minister Abu Seman Jahwie sent them off at the Sibu Airport.

The haj is the fifth of Islam’s ‘five pillars’ – after the ‘syahadah’ (declaration of faith), the obligatory ‘solat’ (prayers) five times a day, presentation of ‘zakat’ (tithe) and fasting during the month of Ramadan.
