MIRI: Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin wants the coastal protection project for Kampung Batu Satu in Kuala Baram to be implemented without delay in view of the approaching monsoon season.

He said the consultant for the RM25-million project has been appointed, while survey and design works have been carried out.

“The tender is supposed to be called this year. This project is critical as it concerns the safety and livelihood of the fishing community here and should not be postponed or cancelled.

“I call upon the federal government to expedite and implement this project as scheduled by DID (Department of Irrigation and Drainage),” he said during a visit to Kampung Batu Satu yesterday.

Lee was at the village to assess the damage caused by strong wind on Tuesday night, which ripped off sections of the boat shed roof and caused waves to flood the shed area and fish market areas.

“The funds for the project have already been allocated, hence the need to implement it without delay,” he added.
