Motorcyclist killed on the spot in collision with pick-up

KUCHING: A motorcyclist identified as Puuan Panjang, 43, from Mongkos, Serian was killed in an accident with a pick-up truck at Jalan Usaha Jaya, Muara Tabuan about 5.40am yesterday.

According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the 19-year-old driver of the pick-up lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the motorcyclist while exiting a junction.

Puuan was declared dead on the spot by personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and was brought to the hospital morgue for a post mortem. The lorry driver escaped unhurt.

Police seized both machines, and are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In a separate incident in Jalan Datuk Marican Salleh, a compact car landed on its side after colliding with a sedan car around 1pm yesterday.

The driver and a passenger of the compact car were pulled out of the vehicle by members of the public prior to the arrival of the Fire and Rescue Department personnel.

After receiving first aid treatment from Bomba’s Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS), they were brought to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

The driver of the sedan car was unhurt in the incident.
