KOTA KINABALU: This year’s Aidiladha falls on August 22, Assistant Secretary of the Council of Rulers Mohd Aseral Jusman announced.

“In carrying out the order of the Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, and after being agreed upon by Duli-Duli Yang Maha Mulia RajaRaja, I hereby declare that 1 Zulhijjah 1439 Hijrah is on Monday, August, 13, 2018.

“As such, Hari Raya Korban (10 Zulhijah) for all the states in Malaysia is fixed for Wednesday, August 22, 2018,” he said when announcing the date over Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), today.

Meanwhile, Balai Cerap Al-Biruni in Tanjung Dumpil, Putatan here was one of the location of the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijjah to determine the date for Aidiladha.

The weather was clear and calm as well as without rain which making the moon sighting progressed smoothly.

Sabah Mufti Datuk Bungsu @ Aziz Jaafar reported the moon sighting result to the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal at about 6.40pm after the signing ceremony by the state committee members of moon sighting 1439H / 2018M.

Also present during the moon sighting were the state Law and Native Affairs Minister Datuk Aidi Mokhtar, Syariah Chief Justice Datuk Jasri @ Nasip Matjakir, Land and Survey Department director Datuk Safar Untong, Islamic Affairs Department director Yusof Abd Abbas and Universiti Malaysia Sabah senior lecturer Associate Prof Dr Saini Ag Damit.
