The closures will involve Main Bazaar/Lebuh Wayang Junction, Jalan Gambier, Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Main Bazaar, Jalan Lebuh Wayang, Jalan Wawasan, Jalan Borneo, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Abell towards Jalan Padungan, Jalan Padungan towards Sri Aman Roundabout, the RTM traffic light, Jalan Satok towards Padang Merdeka, Jalan Haji Taha, Jalan Khoo Hun Yeang, Jalan Masjid, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman (cat’s statue) and St Mary’s School traffic lights towards Lebuh Wayang.

“Those taking part in the event as well as the spectators are advised to park their vehicles at either Reservoir Park, Taman Budaya, Green Hill, Saujana carpark, Top Spot carpark, Kuching Civic Centre, Poliklinik Jalan Masjid, or Kuching City South Council (MBKS) parking lots,” said Kuching District police chief ACP Ng Ah Lek during a press conference on the marathon yesterday.

He also pointed out that Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg, Jalan Pearl, Jalan Barrack and Jalan Wawasan would be closed as early as 1130pm on Saturday night to enable installation works on the start/finish gateway.

“Motorists are advised to plan their journey ahead of these times and must adhere to the direction given by any traffic policeman around the affected areas.

“They must also adhere to traffic rules – they must not park their vehicles indiscriminately,” he said, adding that enquiries about the event could be forwarded to Kuching Marathon Association; it is also vital for them to observe all notices or signboards placed along the routes.

With over 10,000 runners from over 30 countries, Kuching Marathon has gained worldwide attention and in this regard, Ng called upon all Kuchingites to continue making this city a safe place to visitors.
