SIBU: There are four vacancies for School Improvement Partners (SIP) Plus in Sibu district that need to be filled, disclosed Sarawak deputy education director Abang Mat Ali Abang Masagus.

He said the vacancies are open to all the 23 principals here, where the criteria is either excellent principal or principal with high performance.

“It is an open secret that all the 23 principals in Sibu district are considered as having excellent performance. We need principals to become SIP Plus to help the schools,” he said when asked to elaborate a point in his speech earlier.

Abang Mat was speaking to reporters after officiating at Sibu District Teacher’s Day Celebration 2018 here on last night.

“SIP Plus is help the headmasters and principals. In the case of Sibu district, we need (the) four SI Partners Plus vacancies to be filled up with our principals – at the least they can help the primary schools.

“If we can help the primary schools, we can elevate their performance and eventually, raise our education (level) as a whole. That is the whole idea behind SIP Plus,” he added.

Earlier in his speech, Abang Mat noted Sibu district alone has 4,208 teachers, which is more than 10 per cent of the total number of teachers in Sarawak, which stood at 41,472 as at June 30, 2018.

He pointed out that teachers here played important role to continue the efforts in elevating the level of education in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Sibu assistant district education officer Nur Katerina Abdullah, who is also discharging the duties of district education officer, acknowledged that teachers as front-liners played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of National Education Transformation and responding to the challenge Malaysia Education Development Plan (2013 – 2025).

She said teachers need to inculcate high interest and intention to ensure the six core students aspirations to fill the needs of the 21st century as outlined in Malaysia Education Development Plan.

At the same function, certificates were also presented for various achievements.

Also present at the function was Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) Sibu division chairman Tan Kuang Wui.
