KUCHING: The annual delegates conference of Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) today (Aug 12) is expected to decide on some major issues facing the party.

According to SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, important matters will be brought for discussion among party delegates before a decision can be made.

He said this when met by reporters after chairing the party’s Central Committee (CC) meeting held at SUPP headquarters here yesterday.

Dr Sim, who is Local Government and Housing Minister, said the CC meeting was merely an annual business while important decisions can only be decided during the conference today.

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting, who was also approached by reporters later, disclosed that the CC meeting touched on, among other things, the role of SUPP in former Barisan Nasional (BN) Sarawak as well as the future of SUPP in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

He pointed out that what had been brought up at the CC meeting was just at a discussion level.

When pressed if the meeting discussed whether SUPP should or should not join GPS, Ting said: “We discussed a lot of matters today (yesterday), and that issue was one of them.”

To another question, he concurred with Dr Sim by saying that the CC meeting focused on discussion while decision could be made only today (Aug 12).

When the CC meeting commenced at around 1.30pm, more than 75 CC members had signed their attendance. SUPP has a total of 116 CC members.

Among those at the meeting which concluded at around 6.45pm was SUPP deputy president Datuk Seri Richard Riot.

SUPP annual delegates conference is expected to start at 9am today. It presently has 404 delegates.
