KUCHING: The annual traditional Chinese orchestra and singing performances held in conjunction with the ongoing Kuching City Day celebration, continued to captivate audience of all ages.

Organised by Kuching South City Council (MBKS), the ensemble made up of musicians from the Association of Oriental Music presented exciting and beautiful performance at the MBKS Auditorium here yesterday.

MBKS mayor Datuk James Chan, in his brief address at the event, said the oriental Chinese music event was important to inculcate and promote age-old Chinese culture in city.

“This kind of performing arts should be valued. We must appreciate the traditional music of the Chinese community and also the performers especially school students who possess such talent and musical skills,” he said.

MBKS, he continued, strived to organise activities and programmes that bring various communities together for their enjoyment and relaxation like the mass Zumba workout that took place Friday night at the hockey stadium here which gathered some 5,000 people.

Earlier, organising chairperson Councillor Lina Yong also pointed out that the many events rolled out by MBKS aimed to bring enjoyment and fun to the community.

“Kuching is our home and all the things we do seek to bring enjoyment and the best of entertainment to uplift the quality of life of the people in Kuching,” she said.

“I hope listeners will be enchanted and appreciate this performance. I also hope we can reach beyond the regular audience so that they can understand and enjoy our culture,” she added.
