Bush fire razes five acres of land

SIBU: An estimated five acres of land along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce was ravaged in a bush fire yesterday evening.

The incident prompted the deployment of personnel from the Sungai Merah and Central fire stations, and led to the fire being contained from causing further destruction.

“The fire is now under control and the affected area is about five acres. We have responded to a total of five such fires in Sibu today (yesterday) alone,” Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak director Nor Hisham Mohammad said.

He went on to advise the public to not conduct open burning activities in view of the current hot and dry weather.

Thick smoke is seen as firemen hose the bush fire along Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
