AADK detains 17 addicts in Tuaran

Among suspects detained by AADK in the operation in Tuaran.

TUARAN: Seventeen men were detained by the National Anti Drugs Agency (AADK) during an operation in Tuaran on Tuesday.

Tuaran AADK chief Asraf Hafiz Ruslan said the suspects were detained during Ops Perdana operation that were carried out at Kamoung Indah, Kamoung Simpangan and a squaters area at Lembaga Tabung Getah at Sungai Damit in Tuaran.

“The 11.30pm operation, which involved officers from Tuaran and Ranau, saw 17 men detained when their preliminary urine came back positive of drug abused,” he said.

Asraf said the suspects, age between 18 and 49, will be remanded for 14 days where they will be investigated under Section 3 (1) of the Drug Addiction Act 1983.

Meanwhile, Asraf said the operation was carried out after the agency received numerous complaints and tip off of drug activities taking place in those areas.

“We will continue to carry out such operation from time to time and welcome all information from members of the public to fight drug activity together,” he said.
