Anifah, Joniston to file objections against poll petitions

KOTA KINABALU: Kimanis member of parliament Datuk Seri Anifah Aman and Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai are expected to file their preliminary objections at the Election Court here against election petitions filed by Warisan candidates in the two constituencies.

Lead counsel for both Anifah and Joniston, Tengku Fuad Tengku Ahmad told Justice Supang Lian that both the respondents would be filing separate preliminary objections against petitioners Datuk Karim Bujang and Jo-Anna Sue Henly Rampas.

The court then fixed September 19 and 20 to hear the objections if any.

Karim and Jo-Anna had filed their petitions naming Anifah and Joniston as their first respondents respectively.

The petitioners also named the returning officers (RO) and Election Commission (EC) as their second and third respondents.

Counsel Rizwandean Bukhari M. Borhan also represented Anifah and Joniston while Karim was represented by counsel Raymond Szetu, Rebecca Chong, Tiong Jia Yii, Song Wei Wan and Chua Kuan E while the counsel for Jo-Anna were Mary Florence Gomez, Edina Sung Burungoh and Hon Yi Vun.

As for the ROs and EC, counsel Japar Esteban, Muammar Julkarnain, Abdul Fikry Jaafar Abdullah, Shahlan Jufri, Syarulnizam Salleh and Faizal Sardi represented them.
