Before the meeting started, Mohamad Ariff welcomed Muhyiddin, who is Home Minister, and congratulated him on his victory in the last general election.

He also expressed hope that Muhyiddin could contribute towards making the Parliament a respectable institution.

Muhyiddin, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president had been on medical leave since last July 12 after undergoing surgery to remove a tumour in the pancreas in Singapore.

Following which, he was advised by his doctors to undergo chemotherapy treatment for six months.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin, when met at the Parliament lobby, said his health condition had improved and he was in the process of recovering.

He said he had been advised by his doctors not to return to work so soon and was also told that it would take time for him to regain his strength.

“After Raya Haji, I’ll begin the chemotherapy treatment as suggested by my doctors,” he said, adding that he would have to do the chemotherapy treatment 12 times within six months.

Asked when he would be back to work again, Muhyiddin said it all depended on the state of his health.

“If I become a bit more healthy, I might start work…light work.

“I can also go for meetings, but not the long ones. This is on the doctor’s advice.

“If I can attend the cabinet meeting, I’ll go,” he added. — Bernama
