Woman claims trial to drunk driving, causing death

TAWAU: A 34-year-old woman, who was the Sri Tanjong candidate for STAR in 2013 General Election claimed trial to charges for causing the death of four men and another man with a broken left leg in a fatal accident on July 8, 2018 at a Magistrate Court today.

The accused Olivia Chong Oi Yun pleaded not guilty in front of Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene to charges under Section 44(1)(b) Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) which provides imprisonment not less than 3 years and not more than 10 years and fine not less RM8,000 and not more than RM20,000, and the second charge under the same Act for causing injury to a victim.

The magistrate fixed the remention date on August 23 for case management of all documents for trial to be handed to the accused or her counsel Abdul Gani Zelika, in line under Section 51A(1) Criminal Procedure Code before the date.

The court also allowed the accused bail to be extended.

Under the charges, the accused was charged for causing the death of four men and injuring another at about 1.20am on July 8, 2018 at Jalan Chong Thien Vun in front of BDC Commercial Center (1 Arena), while driving under the influenced of alcohol.

The victims that died were Hiew Nyuk Wei, 30, Clawence Wong Vui Kit, 21, Dicson Lim Kien Shing, 16 and Chung Vui Chan, 21, while the seriously injured victim is Ching Guan Xiong, 21.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Muhammad Fitri Wan Azizan handled the cases.
