Unhealthy air quality recorded in Mukah, other areas in state recorded moderate air quality

KUCHING: Mukah has recorded an unhealthy air pollutant index (API) of 140 as of 1pm today.

According to the Department of Environment (DOE) website, the division had recorded unhealthy readings since yesterday (August 15) with the highest API of 146 recorded at 5am this morning.

Unhealthy API ranges between 101 to 200 and can worsen the health condition of high risk people such as those with heart and lung complications.

Meanwhile, other areas in the state recorded moderate API readings at 1pm today where Kuching recorded an API of 88, Samarahan (90), Sri Aman (82), Miri (74), Samalaju (72), Bintulu (80), Kapit (73), Sibu (92) and Sarikei (85).

Moderate API readings from 51 to 100 suggest moderate pollution that does not pose any bad effect on health while 0 to 50 suggests good air condition.

The API readings is categorised as very unhealthy when it reaches between 201 to 300 and hazardous when the reading is more than 300.
