MIRI: A family of three was left homeless after their house at Kampung Tanjung Berlipat in Niah, near here, was razed to the ground on Thursday.

Miri Fire and Rescue Department chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said firefighters from the Miri Fire Station were despatched to the scene following a distress call at 1.52pm.

“Upon arrival, the operation commander reported that the incident involved a non-permanent structure house measuring 20 by 20 feet fully gutted,” said Law.

He said while waiting for firefighters to arrive, two Batu Niah Volunteer Firefighting Unit members and eight villagers had gone to the scene to help the family.

“The blaze was brought under control at 2.30pm and the fire was completely extinguished at 2.59pm.

“The house was inhabited by a family of three, a male and two female adults,” Law said.

He added the cause of the fire and total loss have yet to be determined.
