KUCHING: Rumah Museh, a 20-door longhouse in Sri Aman, was razed in a fire yesterday afternoon.

The number of residents made homeless stood at 40, according to a report by the Civil Defence Force (APM) which said that half of the units at the longhouse were unoccupied.

Apart from a female resident seeking treatment for smoke inhalation, there were no reports of injuries
received.

The report also stated that affected residents had decided to put up at the homes of relatives pending a decision on the next course of action.

Meanwhile, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii said the
department received a distress call at 4.40pm and immediately deployed personnel from Sri Aman and Serian to the scene.

“Firemen reported that upon arriving at the scene, the 20-door longhouse was engulfed in flames.

“Water from a fish pond was used to bring the situation under control. Apart from the kitchen section of two units, the rest of the longhouse was razed to the ground,” he said in a statement.
