10 MRC volunteers take part in study trip

KUCHING: Ten volunteers from the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) are currently involved in a study trip and exchange programme with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in Manila, the Philiphines from Aug 19-24.

A MRC press release said this MRC’s initiative was aimed to develop a group of volunteers equipped with better knowledge on strengthening the community resilience in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness and emergency response.

“PRC has a strong foundation and better equipped in such a field as the Philippines is prone to major disasters. MRC will also be studying its Philippine counterpart’s legal and support base, strategy, tool and systems for its volunteer development and management plans.

“The Malaysian volunteers will be looking at harmonising and adapting the knowledge and best practices gained through the study trip to the local and MRC’s context as to assist in developing a plan for MRC Sarawak and districts within the state for the 2018-2020 term.
