KUCHING: The 33-year-old man arrested under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 on August 20 is not a lecturer of a private higher learning institution, the police clarified.

According to State Head of Narcotics Investigation Department Superintendent Sahar Abd Latif in a statement issued to members of the media, the suspect actually works as an IT technician at a private higher learning institution.

“The confusion is very much regretted,” he said in the statement.

The suspect was caught at the Jalan Song Pos Laju Centre on Monday where the police found two packets believed to be marijuana inside his vehicle after a search.

The police later on went to the university where he works and found boxes containing marijuana, a weighing machine and a cutter knife hidden behind in the ceiling of a women’s toilet.

The total marijuana seized from the suspect is believed to be worth RM22,300.

If found guilty, the suspect would face the death penalty.
