KUCHING: Sarawak has the immigration right to deny entry to individuals who are deemed to bring about negative impact on the harmony of Sarawakians, with such right stipulated under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), reminded Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

“The way some people are behaving really justified why they were not allowed to enter (Sarawak) in the first place.

“So just zip it,” he said in a statement, responding to the incident where Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice youth chief Shazni Munir Mohd Ithnin was banned from entering Sarawak on Friday.

Fazzrudin, who is Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy youth chief, recalled that Sarawak government even banned some individuals of Barisan Nasional (BN) from coming to the state “because they are deemed to have negative effect to the harmony of the people in Sarawak”.

He said Sarawak is well known for its moderate culture with different ethnic groups having lived in harmony for ages.

“We were able to achieve this because of the way we were brought up in a mixed community and the way our government prevents bigots and insensitive characters from spreading their hatred culture and cancer to Sarawak,” he added.

On Friday, Sarawak Immigration Department director Ken Leben confirmed that Shazni was not permitted to land in Sibu given that the Amanah man is still on Sarawak’s immigration blacklist.

The ban on Shazni is believably due to his police case in 2016 when he was arrested and being probed under suspicion of sedition and conducting activities detrimental to the parliamentary democracy.
