LIMBANG: Nearly all the longhouses in the Batu Danau constituency are enjoying basic amenities including electricity and water supplies.
Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang said currently only three of the 70 longhouses in the area have no electricity supply and works are in progress to connect rural electricity supply to these villages – Rumah Lawai, Rumah Jampong and Rumah Agan Siran.
“The electricity supply facility has not been connected to Rumah Lembong as there is no road connecting the area.
“However, the state government has allocated a budget to construct a village road to facilitate the contractor to implement electricity connectivity when the road is completed,” he told the media after a Hari Raya Haji celebration at Kampung Belading on Thursday.
Paulus noted that some houses in certain villages in Batu Danau did not have electricity supply because they were built after the rural electricity supply (BELB) project was implemented.
“However most of those affected have applied for the BELB under the Rural and Regional Development Ministry,” he said.
He disclosed that the Ministry of Utilities was conducting studies to identify areas which have not been covered by electricity, treated water and gravity feed systems.
Paulus urged the villagers to co-operate with the government towards ensuring that the transformation initiatives undertaken by the Sarawak government would benefit them.
At the function, he announced government grants of RM3,000 for the Kampung Belading hadrah team, RM5,000 for Kabima Voluntary Fire Fighting Team (PBS) and RM10,000 for Belading Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).
Among those present at the function were Batu Danau PBB Youth chief Elvis Mathew Bongsu, pemanca Jun Silah, penghulu Ahmad Bini, Kampung Belading headman Mat Zain Sumil and headman of Kampung Anak Bukit Mahat Matali.
