School’s Chinese Orchestra stages maiden performance

SARIKEI: SMK St Anthony’s Chinese Orchestra Centre which was set up on June 4, staged their maiden performance at the school’s Lecture Hall last Thursday night.

The performance was to commemorate its formation, official handing over of musical instruments and closing ceremony of a four-day camp organised for the pioneering members.

In his welcoming speech,  principal Vincent Liong disclosed that most of the musical instruments were purchased with a contribution of RM25,000 from Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing.

He thanked the school alumni, teachers from Le Musica Centre and the local community for their support which led to the successful formation of the first Chinese Orchestra Centre in the central region.

The performance in front of the packed school hall was preceded by an official handing over of the musical instruments by Ding.

Among those present were a political secretary to the chief minister Teng Ung Woo and headmasters of feeder schools -SK St Anne, SK Methodist Anglo-Chinese, SJK Kwang Chien, SJK Su Tak, SJK Wah Man and SJK Su Ming.
