MIRI: The three state seats in Baram parliamentary constituency have roles to play to enable Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to take over the Sarawak government in the upcoming state election.

Miri MP Dr Michael Teo said he is confident that PKR would take over Petra Jaya (Kuching) if all constituencies work harder.

“Baram is one of PKR’s strongest divisions, and I am confident that PKR can win Sarawak,” he said when officiating at the PKR Baram annual general meeting at Telang Usan Hotel here yesterday.

Dr Teo thus urged all PKR supporters in Baram to work hard in all the three seats of Mulu, Telang Usan and Marudi, which they (PKR) lost to Barisan Nasional (BN) in the last state election. He said he would give his support to PKR Baram chairman, Roland Engan, to contest again in any one of the three seats.

“We want Roland to become an ADUN (people’s representative),” Dr Teo said.

He said, even though Roland lost three times (in the 13th general election, 11th state election and in the 14th GE this year), he is confident that Roland could win if he were picked to contest again in the upcoming state election.

Roland, who also spoke earlier, congratulated party members for their excellent performance in the 14th GE.

He said even though PKR lost Baram to BN, the number of votes had increased from the previous election.

He also called for more people here to register as PKR members to make it at least 5,000 members in Baram before the next state election.

“We now have over 2,000 registered members and we are looking forward to increase the number to 5,000.” Meanwhile, about 100 PKR members attended the AGM yesterday.
