MARUDI: Kuala Tutoh longhouse folk have appealed to the authorities concerned to capture the crocodiles that frequently lurk along the Baram River and sun themselves near the village jetty.

The villagers said they are afraid, especially for their children, as they rely on the river for bathing.

Villager Edwin Wak told The Borneo Post recently that the crocodiles have also demonstrated aggressive behaviour towards them.

“So far nothing has happened yet but we have tried to take care and be aware of the dangerous reptiles,” he said.

“The authorities concerned should survey and monitor the situation and not blame the villagers if any of the reptiles are shot or killed by the people along the Baram River.”

He added crocodiles of different sizes have also been seen along the riverbank from Marudi to Lubok Nibong, Tanjong Opar, and Kampung Benawa.
