SIBU: Mamma-Mia! The Musical is set to establish collaboration and cooperation with government agencies and private sector in developing Sarawak’s arts and culture.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the objectives are to communise arts among Sarawakians and introduce Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra (SONS) choir to communities outside Kuching.

“I take seriously the development of arts in Sarawak where we are facing the challenges of globalisation.

“That is why we witness various arts events through performances whether traditional, modern and contemporary,” he said during the musical performance at a leading hotel here on Saturday night.

Abang Johari’s text-of-speech was read by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Art and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

The musical performance jointly organised by Sarawak Arts Council (MSS), Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports and Sibu Resident Office, was performed by SONS choir.

Abang Johari said such events could become tourism products to attract both local and foreign visitors to Sarawak.

Also present at the event were Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee, MSS chief executive officer (CEO) Sharkawi Amit, Sibu deputy resident Wong Hee Sieng and the performance director Yap Chiew Phin.
