LIMBANG: Surveillance conducted by police on a suspected illegal cock-fighting activity led to the arrest of a local man for possession of live ammunition.

District police chief Supt Mohd Bukhori Saffai said the 43-year-old suspect from Kuala Mendalam was detained after five live shotgun cartridges and one spent cartridge were found inside his pickup truck.

“The surveillance operation was being carried out at Kampung Tanjung, Jalan Medamit around 2pm on Sunday when the police team conducted an inspection of a pickup truck driven by the suspect.

“The search uncovered the ammunition as well as a bag containing 14 cockspurs.

“The suspect has so far refused to cooperate when questioned about the ammunition,” he told the press here yesterday.

Mohd Bukhori added the suspect has been remanded for further investigation for offences under the Arms Act 1960, as well as the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
