Lodge school raises over RM55,000 for 15 charity bodies

KUCHING: Lodge National Secondary School has raised over RM55,000 for 15 charitable organisations in Sarawak as part of its ‘give back to society’ programme.

During an event called ‘Jom Charity’ held at the school in Jalan Keranji 4 here yesterday, the director of Lodge Group of Schools Thomas Huo Kok Sen said “it is not the amount that you give that is important, it is the heart that you want to give to help others.”

Most of the donations were raised from a Form 4 moral education project named ‘A Day of Love (ADOL)’ a part of their practical components.

Other student groups that also participated in the programme were Career Club, Leo Club, Interact Club, Prefectorial Board, Form 5A Economics Class and the Science Department.

A political secretary to the chief minister, Tan Kai, who was the guest-of-honour, said; “The Sarawak government would need the assistance of non-governmental organisations (NGO) to assist the needy individuals in society.”

Tan was representing Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian as he had to attend a state cabinet meeting.

Representatives from the 15 charitable organisations were present at the function to receive the donations.

They were Pertubuhan Ibu Bapa Kanak-kanak Keperluan Istimewa (Pibakat), Hope Place, Kuching Autistic Association, Sarawak Society for the Blind, Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS), Sarawak Breast Cancer Support Group, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Sinar Murni Kuching, Sarawak Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA), Save Our Strays (SOS Kuching), Dyslexia Association of Sarawak, Salvation Army, Salvation Army Boy’s Home, The Green Ribbon Association, Sarawak Cheshire Home, and National Cancer Society of Malaysia (Sarawak Branch).
