MIRI: A man’s decision to take a closer look at a two-vehicle accident near the Pujut 7 traffic lights here yesterday ended up costing him his life.

The deceased, identified as Seteven Ajang, 29, from Senadin had stopped at the scene of an earlier collision involving a pickup truck and compact car, when a third vehicle suddenly crashed into the rear of the pickup truck.

According to a statement issued yesterday by Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the impact of the collision caused the pickup truck to spin and strike the victim, who was standing next to it.

“The victim sustained serious injuries and was sent to Miri Hospital where he succumbed around 7.40am today (yesterday),” he said.

Alexson added the drivers of the three vehicles involved in the incident were not injured, and that police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
