BINTULU: Shell MDS (SMDS) Malaysia will continue its industrial welding programme ‘Projek Link’ with Bintulu Vocational College (KV Bintulu).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the renewal of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Monday.
“Since its inception in 2012, Projek Link has helped Sarawakian youths upskill themselves, producing close to 100 industry certified wielders, who have made their mark in various companies in and outside of Malaysia,” said Shell Malaysia chairman Datuk Iain Lo.
The programme trains participants in 6G welding.
SMDS partners with facilitators to provide exposure in the areas of personal and workplace safety, self-motivation, self-progression, and leadership development.
The programme will continue to target academically weaker students and those who cannot afford to undergo training for 10 months, from February to December annually.
Since 2012, SMDS has invested an estimated RM1.04 million for this programme.
SMDS is also exploring an opportunity to partner with KV Bintulu to start a scaffolding training programme for the oil and gas industry, targeting Sarawak youths and school-leavers.
Among those present at the signing ceremony were SMDS managing director Omar Sheikh, SMDS general manager Tom Wong, Ministry of Education Technical and Vocational Education Department director Zainuren Mohd Nor, and KV Bintulu director Jamali Mohamad.
