SMK Arang Road wins Robot Cup Competition

KUCHING: SMK Arang Road won the Robot Cup Competition during the two-day SCIENCE (Sarawak Community Invention Engineering Competition and Exhibition) by Sarawak Energy.

A press release yesterday said the team proved it had what it
takes in the field of robotics through strategic coordination and manoeuvring of their invention of a modified soccerbot.

Second place went to SMK Kuching High, while Chung Hua Middle School No. 3 came in third.

For the SCIENCE lower secondary category, first place went to SMK St Teresa for the project ‘Magic Light’, followed by second placed SMK St Thomas for ‘Eco Compressor’, and ‘The Magic Box’ by SMK St Teresa in third place.

For the SCIENCE upper secondary category, the top three places went to SMK Kuching High (Sunflower), SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor (Smart Container Reminder), and SMK Kuching High (Aquaponics).

In his speech, Sarawak Energy vice-president for research and development Dr Chen Shiun said new inventions could only be achieved with creative and curious minds, combined with hard work and discipline.

“Through SCIENCE by Sarawak Energy, we hope to play a significant role in advancing education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) amongst secondary school children in Sarawak.

“I understand that this event is well-participated. We hope that we have achieved our objective to enhance the love of science, through this platform that encourages the sharing of new ideas and discoveries,” he said.

Organised by The Learning Curve (TLC) and sponsored by Sarawak Energy, the 2018
event was supported by the Sarawak government, Digital Economy Hub, and CityONE Megamall.

Themed ‘Renewable and Sustainable Energy’ with the tagline ‘Powering Young Minds’, SCIENCE aims to encourage interest in STEM.
