SIBU: Six per cent Sales and Services Tax (SST) will be imposed on all parking fees within the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) jurisdiction starting Sept 1.

Its chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King disclosed this during a full council meeting yesterday.

He also said the rates of compound would not be revealed under the council’s new policy.

“The amount of compound could be traced only with the respective compound issuance section in SMC upon making payment,” he added.

On another matter, Tiong said that the Sarawak government has approved the change of name of  Sibu Town Square Phase 1 and 2 to ‘Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang’.

“The public or event organisers intending to book the venue for any event shall use the name ‘Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang’ in their application letter, and also in event promotional materials such as billboards, banners or fishtails,” he said.

He also said there are still vacant stalls at Harmoni Uptown Market.

Those interested can apply.

Among goods that can be sold at the market are handicrafts, home utensils, souvenirs, clothing, homemade cakes and pastries, electrical goods and devices, and IT products.

The opening hours are from 5pm to 10pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Meanwhile, members of the public may call SMC Hotline 084310808, or LA Serve (0198179297) or Talikhidmat (082555999) to complain, request assistance and report on matters such as malfunction of trafficlights, potholes, scupper drain, illegal dumping during or after working hours.
