KAPIT: After eight days of hard work to provide free medical consultation and specialist services, the team of 41 volunteers from Academy For Silent Mentor (AFSM) had a time to relax when they were treated to an ‘Appreciation Buffet Dinner’ at Meligai Hotel here on Wednesday.

The dinner was co-sponsored by Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong and Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit, who were impressed with the ‘AFSM Medical Outreach’ programme at Kapit Hospital from Aug 22 to 29.

The volunteers comprised medical professors, doctors, Chinese physicians, nurses, medical equipment suppliers and others and bore their own expenses for the programme, even bringing their own medicines and equipment.

Led by Professor Dr Chin Kin Fah, they conducted free medical care at Kapit Hospital which attracted over 400 patients, a number Dr Chin said he had never seen before.

In his brief remark at the dinner, Dr Chin expressed gratitude to the volunteers and Kapit Hospital for making the outreach programme a success and the elected representatives from Kapit for their support.

“We learned a lot about Kapit. Thank you, we were actually looked after very well the moment we stepped out of the boat. Thank you to many people who are kind to us. Of course, thank you to all volunteers. Without you coming here, we could not run this programme. By coming here, you burnt your wallet but hopefully you are filled with joy and fond memories,” he said.
