KUCHING: Leaders of four Sarawak political parties met yesterday to discuss their next move in forming the Sarawak Baru alliance, which would be to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

In the interim, each of the four parties – State Reform Party Sarawak (STAR), Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS Baru), Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) and Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) – shall seek the consensus of their respective members to forge the alliance.

The announcement to form Sarawak Baru has been met with encouraging and positive response as many Sarawakians feel that the state is in a unique position as a component territory of the Federation of Malaysia which was formed under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, and whose oil and sovereignty interests need to be guarded and defended at all costs, said STAR president Lina Soo.

Sarawak Baru shall strive to fulfil the peoples’ aspiration for a prosperous and harmonious Sarawak where Sarawakians shall govern their resources themselves for a better-developed economy and progressive society, she added.
