The scene of the accident.

KUCHING: A 37-year-old woman was killed when a collision led to a second crash on the Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce flyover this morning.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the victim identified as Loh Chai Sia succumbed to her injuries at 10am while receiving treatment at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

In the 7.45am incident, the victim, who was driving a compact car,  rear-ended a sedan car that was said to have braked suddenly, while ascending the flyover.

Both vehicles then pulled to the left lane after the collision.

“While the victim (Loh) was controlling the flow of traffic and assembling a traffic warning triangle sign, she was knocked down by an oncoming compact car driven by a man who had lost control of his car due to the slippery road condition,” he said.

Alexson pointed out that all three vehicles were headed in the same direction towards Kuching.

The victim was then rushed to the hospital for treatment as she suffered severe head and body injuries, where she was pronounced dead few hours later.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
