SIBU: A man charged with two counts of criminal breach of trust CBT), pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court yesterday, and was released on RM2,000-bail for each count and with two local sureties.

Lau Kah Hing, 52,  was charged under Section 409 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of between two years and 20 years, and whipping, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Deputy Registrar Stella Augustine Druce who presided over the case said the two local sureties must be employed and have permanent address.

She also ordered Lau to report to the central police station here once a month (anytime in the first week).

According to the charge sheet, Lau alledgedly committed CBT involving a total of RM60,000 on Sept 15, 2015 and Oct 25, 2015.

He allegedly issued two cheques for RM30,000 each on Sept 15 and Oct 25  to a company which had stopped operation since 2011.

Lau was the director of a driving institute, and thus had the capacity to have dominion over the cheques of the driving institute, the court was earlier told.

Stella fixed Oct 4 for pre-trial case management.
