MARUDI: A local villager’s determination to snare a crocodile suspected of
devouring his poultry led to the capture of a 13-footer early yesterday.

The villager, Sarbini Hamid from Kampung Dagang, said he realised the reptile had taken the bait around 5am and immediately alerted fellow villagers to
help drag the croc onto the riverbank.

The 45-year-old said following the disappearance of several of his ducks and a goose last week, he decided to set baited hooks along the river as he suspected his missing poultry had been taken by crocodile(s).

The snared reptile, estimated to weigh about 300kg, was later culled by Sarbini and buried nearby in the presence of Sarawak Forestry Corporation officers.

Prior to the burial, the officers inspected the content of the croc’s stomach and found it to contain a monitor lizard and some garbage discarded into the river.
