Petipun holds annual Pesta Penan

BELAGA: An association for the development of the Penan community, Petipun held its annual festival Pesta Penan at Long Turun here last weekend.

Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong and Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon each presented Petibun with RM10,000 government grant to motivate and encourage them further.

When officiating at the opening of the festival, Ugak told the Penans to focus of education not only for self -development but also to catch up on community well-being and socio-economic standard.

With education, the Penan community will be able to appreciate the wonders of Information technology, he said.

Ugak also reminded them of the contribution by the Sarawak government in providing them with electricity, water supply and bridges particularly in the Long Turun area.

Ugak also took the opportunity to inform the community that the new Sarawak government is now led by Gabugan Parti Sarawak (GPS) under Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and not Barisan Nasional (BN).

He thanked them for their support during the last parliamentary election.
