SIBU: Students in Malaysia should count themselves fortunate that they are able to get their education in a peaceful environment like what we are enjoying.

SK St Mary’s headmaster Morris Belayong said this when speaking at the school’s National Day celebration here yesterday.

In many other countries, the education process and infrastructure were badly affected by wars and natural calamities.

“Many schools in other nations have to close due to wars,” he said while reminding the students to cherish and appreciate the peace they enjoy.

He also called on students to take the opportunity to study hard as having a good education will stand them in good stead when they enter the job market.

“Your outstanding academic attainment will not only be proud achievement for yourself, but also for your family and school as well,” he said.

Morris stressed the importance of having good education, saying the knowledge acquired will help them become assets to the nation.

On the National Day celebration, he said it was a good way to instill the patriotism spirit in the young children.
