KUCHING: Eight community leaders from Telaga Air near here attended a high profile policing and dialogue session recently.

According to Padawan District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, the objective of the programme was to foster closer relationship between the police and the community leaders.

“The programme also acts as a platform for us (police) to disseminate information and provide advice on crime prevention,” Aidil said when contacted Thursday.

Held at Kampung Sibu Laut, Telaga Air, the community leaders also highlighted the problems faced by villagers in their area such as drug abuse, theft, vandalism and gambling.

Aidil assured that the police would provide professional services to the community and urged the community leaders to directly contact him if the need arises.

“We also call upon the community leaders to cooperate with the police as this will make it more efficient for us to fight crime and drug abuse in a community,” said Aidil.

Also present at the programme were Padawan district police deputy chief DSP Merbin Lisa and Sarawak Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPKK) staff officer Supt Roselina Daud.
