KOTA SAMARAHAN: It is hoped that the Ministry of Education (MOE) under the new government will help  Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in realising its dream to have its own hospital.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan noted that this was because Unimas has long wanted to have its own hospital like any other public university.

“Before, perhaps the federal government was less concerned with Unimas’ efforts to have a university hospital. So we hope that with the present ministry under the leadership of Dr Maszlee (Malik), Unimas’ dream to have its own hospital can be realised.

“Sometimes, we feel annoyed when we learnt that a new university that has just applied got the approval, while Unimas that has been longing for it until this day does not get the approval yet,” he said, when addressing the Patriotic Cultural Concert 2018 organised by Unimas in collaboration with Student Development Division (BPMs) and MOE’s Higher Education Department held at DeTAR Putra Unimas here on Friday night.

Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, pointed out that the people want development in Sarawak to be intensified, apart from a balanced development to be implemented in the region.

In addition, he said it is also the hope of the people to see education development in Sarawak strengthened.

“As such, we urged for the works on upgrading and rebuilding dilapidated schools and teacher’s hostels to be implemented urgently,” he added.

Minister of Education Dr Maszlee Malik, Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Unimas Board of Directors chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Sulong Matjeraie and Unimas vice chancellor Profesor Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi were among those present.
