KUCHING: Sarawakian Larrisa Ping was crowned Miss World Malaysia 2018 after defeating 11 other contestants at the beauty queen’s contest final round held here at the Borneo Convention Center Kuching (BCCK), last night.

Winning the title, the 19-year-old contestant will represent Malaysia for the Miss World contest which is scheduled to be held in Sanya, China on Dec 8 this year.

Larissa, who has a dream of helping children living in the interior, especially in the field of education, received a crown worth RM4 million, a cash prize of RM30,000, a ring, a sling and a trophy.

Her prize was presented to her by the final judges of Miss World Malaysia 2018, Nabila Huda and Carmen Soo.

Apart from being crowned Miss World Malaysia 2018, Larissa also won the Photogenic Queen Award and Top Talent Award in which the theme for this year was “Beauty With Purpose” that night.

Meanwhile Shannen Jade, 24, from Kuala Lumpur was crowned first runner-up during the contrest as she also won the Miss Elegance title.

Second runner-up was Naomi Sim, 26, who is also from Sarawak.

Both Shannen and Naomi brought home a cash prize of RM5,000 and RM3,000 with with trophies, a sling and bouquet respectively.

Meanwhile, the Miss World Malaysia’s final match also saw other titles and awards being awarded.

Among them are the People’s Choice and Top Model award won by 23-year-old Sarawakian Francisca Luhong James and Miss Personality Award by Zane Wong, 22, from Kuala Lumpur.

The ceremony was also attended by the wife of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Toh Puan Ragad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg with his wife, Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang.

Also present were Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and his wife Datin Zuraini Abdul Jabbar and several other distinguished guests.
