Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash

Paramedics attend to the victim following a crash between a motorcycle  and a car at Jalan Penriseen.

KUCHING: A motorcyclist is in critical condition at Sarawak General Hospital suffering serious head injuries sustained during an early morning crash yesterday.

The 24-year-old was riding from Mile 7 to a petrol station at Mile 8, Jalan Penrissen where he was working, when he collided with a car about 3am.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist from Landeh, had borrowed a motorcycle belonging to a colleague, to purchase cigarette at Mile 7.

Fifteen minutes later, his colleague rushed to check after hearing of an accident  just before the junction to the petrol station, and found the victim on the road shoulder laying in a pool of blood.

The car driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the road barrier, rammed into the motorcyclist, and landed in the drain.

The victim, was rushed to the hospital and was warded at the Red Zone for treatment.

Separately, five occupants of a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle escaped with just scratches after the vehicle overturned at the Gedong junction, near Serian.

The vehicle was heading to Saratok from Kuching when it crashed around 4am yesterday. The victims were taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention.
