PH wins in Balakong and Seri Setia

BANGI: Pakatan Harapan (PH), which for the first time  was using its own logo, won in the Balakong by-election yesterday.

Prior to this,  the coalition had to use the logo of its component party PKR.

The other component parties are Bersatu, DAP and Amanah.

PH’s candidate Wong Siew Ki, 32,  polled 22,508 to defeat MCA candidate Tan Chee Teong, 40, by a majority of 18,533 votes.

Tan only managed to secure 3,975 votes.

This by-election also witnessed MCA, a component party of Barisan Nasional which lost in the 14th general election  on May 9, using its own logo for the first time instead of the BN’s ‘balanced scales’ logo.

The results were announced by Returning Officer for the Balakong by-election Datuk Rosli Othman at  Dewan Demesne, Hulu Langat Land and District Office at 9.30pm.

Also present was Election Commission (EC) secretary  Datuk Mohamed Elias Abu Bakar. For the Seri Setia by-election Halimey Abu Bakar,  from PKR,  polled 13,725 votes to defeat his opponent Dr Halimah Ali of PAS by a majority of 4,027 votes. Halimah garnered 9,698  votes.

The turnout was just 44.1 per cent.
