SIBU: Youth groups have been part of communities for decades but a surprisingly large number of youths are unaware of the benefits of being members of such groups.

Secretary of the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Sibu Chapter Jamali Yew pointed this out in his address at MRC Sibu Chapter’s Youth mass enrolment ceremony for 843 students from 13 secondary schools at its premises here yesterday.

“Some of the skills and opportunities available to youths are through participation in Red Crescent activities,” he said.

Jamali said the benefits from being in Red Crescent include a good amount of exercise with frequent marching drills and first aid duty.

“Youths also learn responsibility, team work and leadership skills which would serve them well in life.

“Red Crescent activities are designed to help youths find their footing with confidence, a sense of well-being and belonging while growing up. Being a member of Red Crescent is a great way to gain valuable life experience,” Jamali added.
