LUNDU: A 16-year-old boy was killed after a tree fell on top of him at Jangkar Waterfall here yesterday.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii when contacted said the victim had accompanied his father – a guide in the area – to the popular picnic spot when the incident happened around 12.30pm.

“Moments before the incident, the victim was seated alone on a rock when a landslip
occurred at a slope behind him, causing a tree to uproot and fall on him.

“Locals and picnickers helped to remove the fallen tree prior to the arrival of firemen. A medical doctor who was among the crowd attended to the victim but was unable to save the teenager’s life,” he said.

The boy, believed to have suffered serious internal injuries, was transported by firemen to the foot of the hill and handed over to police personnel to be sent to the hospital.
